Chris Norton | CUE: Ways of Seeing

When making this video analysis, I intentionally chose a political advertisement to keep with the theme of my website, which is analysing our country’s current political and economic state. I wanted to emphasize the emotional weight and urgency of this advertisement. I wanted to highlight the emotional tools used in the ad, like the music and imagery used to connect with the audience. I wanted also to acknowledge the fact that donald trump is specifically called out, because that is the political state we are in, where it is not only bringing up one candidate, showing their plans and policies they would like to enact, but also showing that the other candidate is a true threat to American democracy and freedom. The line “attack on hard-fought freedom” stood out to me; it is a powerful reminder of the struggle behind the rights we have and enjoy now, and those rights are under threat and attack under Donald Trump. It saddens me to watch this ad now, seeing how much hope there was for uplifting others, keeping freedoms, and winning, because these rights are currently under attack because of Trump. Overall, I wanted the video to reflect the passion of the advertisement and the urgency of its message.
